Dan Freier, co-founder and principal of Pine Grove Management and Pine Grove Advisors, is a seasoned managed care expert. Pine Grove Advisors is a company that advises health care and health insurance organizations on financial, product development and actuarial matters. Pine Grove Management invests in health care related businesses.
In 1990, Dan co-founded Reden & Anders, one of the country’s leading managed care actuarial consulting firms. Dan led the process of selling Reden & Anders in 1998 to UnitedHealth Group, including identifying potential acquirers and negotiating the final sale. Dan was a consulting actuary throughout his tenure with Reden & Anders, and the managing principal of Reden & Anders until 2004.
Dan was a founder and director of Certitude, a healthcare data and technology firm, which was sold to UnitedHealth Group in 1997. He is also a founder of Evergreen Re, which began operations in 1994 and is currently one of the largest managed care brokerage companies in the country.
Dan is currently a member of the board of directors of the following companies:
- Pine Grove Advisors, LLC
- Pine Grove Management, LLC
- Evergreen Re, Ltd.
- Labyrinth HealthCare Group, Inc., a patient advocacy company headquartered in Louisiana.
Prior to forming Pine Grove Advisors in late 2004, Dan worked for UnitedHealthcare on acquisitions and strategic partnerships. Dan was also a senior manager with Deloitte & Touche (1982-1990).
Dan is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He is also a member of the Health Section of the Society of Actuaries. He graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota, with a degree in Business Administration.
